Could web rental efficiency gut DIY chains?

If specialized do-it-yourself tools can be rented, easily and efficiently, for two hours, will that start to hurt Lowe's and Home Depot?

Of the many startups that materialize on the U.S. business landscape every year, most enter an existing space, with very few offering a product/service that no one has yet seen. When entering an established market, most have a differentiator, such as a way to price lower or a patent that allows them to ship much faster.
But when Elias Chavando launched his startup, Rentus.com, last year, his sole major differentiator was simply technology. He knew that there are many businesses in the rental business, but they're overwhelmingly antiquated, with many still using paper and pencil to track inventory and revenue. Even worse (or, from Chavando's perspective, better), these rental stores have a hyper-local mentality, selling only to a handful of nearby neighborhoods. The rental business is a vertical that the web forgot.

Shared Economy Start-up Uses AI-based Compatibility Testing for Online Rental Marketplace

Seeking the next big idea in the “shared economy” pioneered by Uber and Airbnb – while also incorporating compatibility matching capabilities of dating and social media sites – an AI newbie has put forth an online business model based on renting items many of us own – party supplies, power tools, wheelchairs, lawn equipment, video gear – to those who’d rather rent than buy.
It’s been observed that a power drill, to take a common example, is only used by its owner for 12 minutes per year. So it makes eminent sense to rent a drill for a few dollars rather than buying one, right? Actually, maybe not. While a rental marketplace seems like an obvious business model, getting it to work in the real world has been another matter. For one thing, if renting a drill involves traveling any significant distance then many people would just as soon buy one and be done with it. For another, if the owner and renter don’t get along it lessens the chances that either one will become return customers.
Rntus.com is attempting to overcome these challenges by developing a data-driven infrastructure that combines AWS’s auto-scaling compute and storage infrastructure with a home-grown, inference-based AI capability that makes using the site seem like signing up for Match.com or eHarmony. The idea, according to founder and CEO Elias Chavando, is to avoid the fraction-of-a-penny-per-query that Rntus.com would otherwise pay AWS for AI functionality, charges that would add up quickly when the start-up processes the hundreds of thousands of queries per hour it expects – and hopes – come its way.

AOL, Yahoo, Gmail, and Mail.com – exclusively ‘junked’ conservative news sites.

Yoover.com is the only conservative email service provider offering advanced encryption, privacy and security.

Email providers suppress conservative news

There’s been a lot of talk about liberal bias in the media — but it looks like the bias doesn’t end there.

Some of the largest tech companies in the world seem to be conspiring to make sure news from conservative sources never reaches your inbox.

Every day, increasingly more Americans are turning to the Internet as their primary source of news. Email news services in particular have grown rapidly in popularity.

But getting those emails delivered, especially for conservative news sources, is no small task.

For months, conservative readers have been complaining that top email service providers regularly send news from right-leaning sources to junk mail — or don’t deliver the emails at all.

The complaint has come up so often, our staff started asking: Are news services like The Horn News being silenced?

To test the idea, we ran a small experiment — and what we uncovered was shocking.

It’s a dangerous trend. According to a 2014 Gallup poll, over 70% of adults in the United States use email on a daily basis to communicate, and that number is climbing.

It appears that their email providers are aggressively favoring one side of the political aisle.

Our experiment was small, but the results seem definitive. The Horn News editorial team signed up five new email accounts at the largest free email providers – Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Outlook and Mail.com. Then, we signed those email accounts up to receive 10 newsletters each, five liberal and five conservative.

These five biggest email providers were a whopping three times more likely to hide or filter conservative publications. And that is disgustingly unacceptable.

In a mere two weeks’ time, conservative emails were incorrectly labeled as Spam emails and improperly sent to the “Junk mail” folder over 57 times. Liberal emails were only flagged 19 times.

Four of the providers – AOL, Yahoo, Gmail, and Mail.com – exclusively ‘junked’ conservative news sites.

Outlook appears to be the most aggressive spam filterer, but they too favored liberal messages over conservative voices. Outlook junked conservative news at just over a 2-to-1 rate.

Gmail appears guilty on two levels – it not only exclusively (and wrongly) labeled conservative news as junk, those emails it DID let through were also more aggressively filtered into a secondary folder labeling them as promotional, rather than personal — meaning they will be viewed far less frequently by users.

This isn’t the first time the tech industry has been criticized for favoring liberal messages over conservative news.

The Horn News previously noted that Google has been linked to close ties and donations to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

On August 30th, Breitbart accused the search engine giant of suppressing the recent health concerns surrounding the 68-year-old Democratic candidate.

And in May, Gizmodo reported that Facebook had “routinely suppressed news stories of interest to conservative readers.”

The bias could effectively suppressing conservative voices from reaching the ears of millions of Americans — and it could be fatal for the conservative movement. Without a counter-balance to the liberal narrative, millions of Americans are being unknowingly — and unwillingly — bombarded by one-sided propaganda.

Yahoo Email Users Hacked!

This week we learned that in early 2014, hackers stole all the personal data of over 500 million users of Yahoo.com's email. And Yahoo failed to inform its users of the breach?

Let's think about that for a minute. All the data, including date of birth, security questions, passwords and credit card numbers are out in the open. Hackers can use that information to steal your identity, get into your bank accounts… you name it. How can you trust them?

There is very little Yahoo.com users can do. Under the terms of Yahoo's email service, because it is a FREE service, they can do whatever they want. So, with that said, do you still want a free email account?

It is just a matter of time for Gmail, AOL and other "free" email services to come clean and reveal how your information, content and context of your emails and chats have been compromised and used against you in one form or another.

There is an alternative; Yoover.com, the only Private and Secured email service with its own proprietary technology and servers.  You get to have a private, secured email account and peace of mind. Yes, you have to invest a little money, but in the short and long run, it is the best investment you can make.
